Remember "VMware certified" storage simply means that the vendor paid the cost of validating the device and getting it on the HCL (and is happily recouping said cost through people who buy it); certification does not necessarily speak to the device's performance. Speaking from my experience trying a few products in this vein, I have never ever seen one of these little 2 bay NAS devices that will even push 100mbit, let alone work even well enough to justify using it in a lab setting, let alone in production. For a home lab, I'd suggest using ESX local storage and running one of the many VM's available (such as freenas or openfiler) that can make it available via iSCSCI. Or build a little $200 standalone box with freenas or openfiler to do the same thing if you want storage separate from esx.

I've this unit at home for several month and it crashed already twice and the second time it was dead.... Don't buy this!!!
