Data Mining the vCenter Database with QlikView

Eric Sloof's QlikView Demo Several months ago one of my students (Jan-Peter Klijn) showed me a real nifty application called QlikView, it’s a program that makes it possible to retrieve and assimilate data from different sources. Once loaded into the program, the data is presented in a way that is easy to understand and work with. To make selections in QlikView, you don’t need any previous knowledge of databases or search routines: you simply click on the item of which you want to know more. The clicked item turns green, and the program immediately presents all the items associated with the selected one. Graphics and tables can be created to get an even better overview of data. Any graphic or table can be printed or exported to other programs.

I’ve managed to connect QlikView with the vCenter database and within minutes, I was able to create some great “Real Time” reports. I’ve created a Jing movie which demos the configuration and report creation. QlikView is free for personal use, you can get it here.

The movie shows how to build an example, in the free version I don’t think running the QWV file on another system is supported.

Hi, loading a .qvw from another instance of Qlikview is indeed not supported on a personal version. A registered Qlikview can read qvw files from any other qlikview, but the personal version does only reads files that are saved in that particular version, installed on that computer. If you created a very nifty script however, you are of course able to copy it to a text file and paste it in another qlikview Instance. To see the real power of qlikview try feeding it with another large datasets (for example event or performance data for machines in the first database). If there are corresponding field names (which are case-sensitive) in the tables, those will be automatically associated

Thanks for that presentation of that tool. Makes some presentations easier for me (and managing too )

I'm expert user This tool is revolucionary as excel 2.0 but NO limit, have 2 architecture client & server, oriented to users (pure click, programation 0, low cost in implementation in value y timing) ... I'am not supplier ¡¡ test for believe for valid the true With client is possible share .qvw (template + data) for small & medium enterprise, server is oriented to internet (vía web page), TIC (mobile) Additional service is the automation (ETL: extract of data of any source , vía .bat), configuration of alarm & scenarios for control & shortcut corresponding I am working in distribution to users of sms, xls, html, xml, data converted in images to email & mobile Also exist template for clear BB (black box) of data in Sql server, Oracle, AS400 The level as requisite for maintenence is low only editing .txt Is revolucionary because the programation oriented to low cost, then the hi projects of implementation by BI not will exist on time
