Entrigue Systems is the creator of a really cool profile tool called ProfileUnity; an enterprise-level user profile and configuration management solution for VDI and traditional Windows desktops.

ProfileUnity offers some specific Benefits for VDI Environments. A key benefit to running a VDI environment is that users can be provisioned a pristine machine, free of conflicts and bugs, at every logon. You definitely have to attend Scott Herold’s session (DS-16) at the VMware Developer day or Carter Shanklin’s PowerShell session at the VMworld 2009. In those two sessions you might see the new version of the  Virtualization EcoShell 1.2 in action. Since I’m not attending but delivering a VMware ICM training instead :-( Scott Herold was kind enough to let me do some pre-testing with version 1.2. The upgrade went smooth. The first new feature that stroke my eye was the Chart tab in the Grid. After some customization , I was able to create really cool charts. You can select different types like Area, Column, Doughnut, Line, Scatter, Stacked Area and Stacked Column. The horizontal axes labels hold the category and can be fed by everything that’s measurable. You can also select multiple legend entries.

Forbes Guthrie has completely re-written it since the VI3 card, tightened it up significantly and added a lot of information about the new features.  Hopefully everyone will find it as useful as the first one.

Forbes : I write these cards for VMware users/administrators/architects, and refer to it regularly myself.  However, I’m always looking for feedback on how to make it better.  There is obviously a limit on what I can squeeze onto an A4 piece of paper, but I’m always looking for more material.

I’m already planning on some more things for the next update, so keep checking back.  Also, I’m attending VMworld for the first time this year, so hopefully I’ll pick up some more top-tips.  If you are heading to VMworld and recognize the name tag, please come and say hello.
