Scott HeroldĀ over at VMguru.com is building up his lab. He is still waiting for the Dell server to arrive, but today he completed the installation of the iSCSI server.
I was able to finally build my iSCSI server a while back and wanted to highlight some of the details of this particular system. I wanted to try to do something unique with this configuration that would help to support a higher-end workload than a typical server.

Can you tell me what all you have in your lab and how much you have spend? This looks really great.
Thanks,

I actually just received the last 4 servers this afternoon and have them racked (not cabled yet). I'll post a complete list on VMGuru.com once I actually have everything built. Overall the environment consists of:
1 @ Dell PE 2950 Single Proc Quad Core - 4GB - 2 @ 400GB SATA 10K - Prod iSCSI Server
5 @ Dell PE SC1435 Dual Proc Dual Core - 4 GB - 1 @ 73GB SATA 10K - Random Hypervisors that I want to play with
2 @ Dell PE 2850 Dual Proc Single Core - 4 GB - 1 @ 146 GB SCSI 10K - Prod ESX Hosts
1 @ Dell SC 420 Single Proc Single Core - 2 GB - 2 @ 500 GB SATA 7200 - Dev iSCSI Server
1 @ Dell Analog KVM Switch
1 @ Dell PowerConnect 6224 Layer 3 Switch - Prod Network
1 @ Dell PowerConnect 5224 Layer 2 Switch - iSCSI Network
Added all up, the new components (2950, 1435's, KVM, Half Rack and 6224) in the solution cost me under $12K. Not a bad deal for an environment that can realistically run a workload of about 60-75 VMs.
