Video - VMware View Storage Accelerator
This video will give you an introduction to the View Storage Accelerator, a caching feature that can reduce storage costs and improve performance in VMware View.
The Storage Accelerator is made up of two components. The first is a per VMDK digest file and the second is a global cache. The per VMDK digest file has a mapping for disk block number to hash value and the global cache has a mapping for hash value to actual data. The global cache is a reserved area of memory on the ESXi hosts.
It is an in-memory dedupe cache that caches data based on the content hash of a disk block. When the VM issues a read request, we first use the digest file to get the hash value for a block and then consult the global cache to see if the block is in cached. Metadata for the digest file is maintained in memory. If there is hit, we go fetch the data from cache; if there is a miss, we go fetch the data from disk.

Video - NexentaVSA for View
NexentaStor storage software provides advanced features and functionality suited to handle the demands of a virtual desktop environment. Because virtual desktops create a largely random write in nature, the power and flexibility of NexentaStor, with ZFS architecture, greatly lends itself to solving workload requirements.
Arguably the most important feature is the ability to tune performance in the software and accelerate the desktop demand for low latency response times and IOPS. NexentaStor leverages system RAM as a first layer cache device. Additionally, second level cache devices, such as SSDs, can be incorporated as well.
Additional features include:
- 128-bit File System: ZFS-based technology provides the most scalable and flexible 128-bit file system.
- Unified Appliance: Support for NAS (NFS, CIFS WebDAV, FTP) and support for SAN (iSCSI & FC) means flexibility.
- Data Deduplication & Native Compression: Inline data dedupe and compression reduce use of primary storage.
- Hybrid Storage Pools: Ability to use specialized devices, such as SSDs, to accelerate read and write performance.

Video - VMware View 5 Persona Management
Great video from Pete Long about VMware View 5 Persona Management. You should also check-out his website at petenetlive.com.
In addition, View copies recent user profile changes to the desktop profile up to the remote repository every few minutes. The default is every ten minutes, and this time period is configurable.
