This morning I’ve recorded a real cool VMware View 4 PCoIP demo delivered by Willem van Engeland. In this demo Willem shows what impact a limited bandwidth of 5Mb/s and 1Mb/s can have on the performance of your view virtual desktop. The great part is that he switched back and forth between the RDP protocol and the PCoIP protocol. This way you get a real good comparison between both protocols and you can see how PCoIP improves the video quality even though the bandwidth is limited. The video is presented in the Dutch language and the audio quality is poor but take a peek at it, it’s really great stuff.

Cool video, but could you put English subtitles for what we are seeing? Just having the protocol used and bandwidth rate when each screen pops up would be nice. Thanks!

It was indeed an impressive View 4 demo.
[Eric, thanks for sharing the footage.]
2 questions from me during the demo:
(@ 21:13)
Q1: Is there an option during the pool roll-out to choose more than one customization specification and split the pool so you can create two different pools at once?
A1: No, you need to create another pool if you'd like to use another customization specification.
(@ 24:54)
Q2: Will VMWare View pre-calculate the availabe storage, before the roll-out of the pool?
A2: No, it doesn't.
There is a "stop-on-error" option but that means it'll stop rolling out the pool when your storage is full, I guess.
