VCAP-DCA Prep Video - Configure SNMP for ESX/ESXi

ESX/ESXi includes an SNMP agent embedded in hostd that can both send traps and receive polling requests. such as GET requests. This agent is referred to as the embedded SNMP agent. By default, the embedded SNMP agent is disabled. To enable it, you must configure it using the vSphere CLI command vicfg-snmp. In this video I'll show you how to enable the SNMP agent.

Thanks for this. For esxi 4.1, I have enabled this but cannot seem to get ORION from Solarwinds to talk to it. It errors out with invalid credentials. Any ideas?

Eric Thanks for the great video. Keep them coming. I did have one small difference when I setup my ESXi 4.1 hosts using vMA. While the command you typed added the server as a target, I had to run "vicfg-snmp --server -E" to enable SNMP on the host. Just one small note. Thanks again. Chris
