After some sightseeing during the day me and my wife were invited to experience the exotic and extraordinary at Vizioncore's Cirque du Virtuelle Partner Reception at Ruby Skye Lounge in San Francisco. Sunday night we were captivated and thrilled by the evening's exciting entertainment and colorful surroundings. Besides the wonderful buffet and the cigar bar Vizioncore recognized the achievements of their top partners in a awards ceremony. I didnāt took the opportunity to conduct an interview with David Bieneman the CEO of Vizioncore and asking him about the merger with Invirtus and the integration with the upcoming ESX 3.5 Lite version. The only thing I could do is collect some video footage during the evening. The evening was great. You really should take a look. ;-)

VMWorld 2007 Live coverage
Next Saturday me and my wife will fly from Brussels to San Francisco where Iām going to visit the VMworld 2007 event. During this event I will try to record a lot of audio interviews and capture some video footage. The lead-in for the audio interviews is ready and I also created a nice leader for my you-tube videoās. I used the online schedule builder to create an interesting list of sessions. I will team up with two fellow VMware certified instructors. Viktor van den Berg just bought a new flash light for his Nikon D50 camera and he will cover the event for the Dutch Vmug. He has opened a new photo-set on his Flickr site, where you can find the VMworld 2007 photoās. Bouke Groenescheij is busy with the preparation for his āThe Complete Clustering How-Toā? presentation. He will cover the event live using his weblog. The first official event will take place on Sunday. Vizioncore organized a partner appreciation evening. I donāt know what to expect, but Iām confident that Vizioncore will throw a great party. Keep a close watch to my site and stay up- to-date.
Ideas International released an interactive evaluation
The IT research firm Ideas International releasedĀ a new evaluation that compares the technical capabilities of four x86 virtual machine platforms (VMware Infrastructure 3, Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1, Xen with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, and Xen with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1). The evaluation compares the quality ofĀ 40 different functional details in these systems, organized across five categories: performance & scalability; availability; storage Integration; manageability, and deployment considerations. The results of this evaluation are public, and they can be browsed online using a web-based collaborative mechanism. This interface allows visitors to weight the importance of functions covered in the evaluation to arrive at a customized comparison of these VM platforms reflecting their needs. It is also possible for users to contribute their own ratings of individual functions, should they choose to agree or disagree with our "expert" analysis.

VMWā07 : Where's the Party ?

I was wondering where the VMworld 2007 party is going to be. The only thing I can find in āMy Scheduleā? isĀ Wednesday, September 12 7:30pm - 11:00pm VMworld Party. Until now this is the best kept secret at VMware. After searching the internet I have found this VMTN discussion. So the location is going to be Treasure Island and we can enjoy a concert from Smash Mouth but can we trust Brian Gallob on this ?Ā ;-)

VMware's acquisition of Determina could improve security
VMware's acquisition of Determina, a supplier of vulnerability protection software, could improve virtualisation security, analyst firm Gartner has predicted. Gartner identified two technologies from Determina that could boost VMware's built-in security. The first, the Determina Memory Firewall, is designed to protect an operating system and applications against unauthorised memory and program control-flow manipulation. It will protect against attacks such as heap and stack overflows, buffer overflows, and similar techniques used by hackers.

Eco Virtualization Kit
Will virtualization save the planet ? Since lots of people are worried about the greenhouse effect and the eco system in total more and more companies are offering Energy-efficient products and services. Sun recently announced their Eco Optimization Kit and Eco Virtualization services. Sun's Eco Innovation portfolio of products and services is the industry's most innovative and open energy-efficient solution to these, and many more challenges. Now, going green is the smart and safe way to drive higher profits. It's good for business and good for the planet. I was curies what sort of technique Sun is using to do this and finally found the answer on the offerings page. Virtualize now with Solaris Containers or VMware ESX Server on a Sun Blade product, the only blade servers with up to double the memory and I/O of competing x64 blades or rack mount servers and at half the cost. Save 25% (up to $5,750) on VMware ESX Server licenses purchased along with a Sun Blade starter kit. Itās going to be a healthy planet after all.
