Dutch VMUG - 4

After four successful meetings in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Dutch VMware User Group announced it’s time for a fifth one! Viktor would like to invite you to attend the 2009 VMware User Group Event on the 11th of December at the Nieuwegein business centre. With over 3200 members this year’s event will become massive. Join the Dutch VMUG and learn best the practices and optimal use of VMware products, get answers, advice, tips, and suggestions from experts, discover new ideas and gain insight about Virtual Infrastructure, receive special information about new VMware products, network with other technical professionals and be part of the leading edge of VMware users.

This afternoon I presented at the 8th Belgium VMware User Group meeting. The slides and a short video of the demo part can be found here (thanks to Viktor van den Berg for recording). The location was great, we enjoyed some beers at the Palm Brewery in Steenhuffel. Never heard about Steenhuffel? Me neither, I was glad my Tom Tom accepted it and guided me. Eventually around 80 people showed up, much more than I expected. We had a great day.

I’m invited by the Belgium VMware User Group to present at their 8th meeting. My presentation is called PowerShell in a Nutshell, it will dive into the PowerCLI, the Toolkit extensions and the VESI. When you were one of the attendees at the Dutch VMUG event 2008, you may have noticed a nice blond girl walking around with a huge camera. Like Viktor she’s a professional photographer, only she’s much better looking :-) Well she uploaded the photo’s and Viktor is about to launch a new part of the Dutch VMUG website where you can view them.

The Virtualfuture.info team  attended the Dutch VMUG event and brought their video camera with them. Their video’s are appearing online and I’m glad that they picked my session. The roles are different this time, I’ve recorded a dozen of sessions in the past, but this was the first time a blogger is bootlegging my session. They recorded the complete 45 minutes and did a great job. I know how much time it takes to record, convert, edit and upload a video. The image links to their post.  The guys running Virtualfuture.info are Sven Huisman, Matthijs Haverink, Johan Van Zanten and Wouter Heije. When you see someone recording a session in Cannes, it could be one of them.

The Dutch VMUG conference which took place at the Nieuwegein Business Center today turned out to be a great success. On the 12th of December over 600 enthusiastic VMUG members have enjoyed a day full of virtualization, with lots of sessions and workshops. I really enjoyed presenting the PowerShell session and I’m glad all the demo’s worked. Just uploaded the first pictures to a newly created flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/dutchvmug2008/

This morning I presented my “Managing VI3 with PowerShell” session for an audience of 300 people at the Dutch VMUG event in Nieuwegein. The total number of attendees is over 600!!! This presentation focuses on the tools that are currently available for PowerShell. It also gives you an insight on the VMware PowerShell extensions and presents a short introduction to PowerShell as a scripting language. You’ll get an insight look at PowerShell integration in the viClient and a lot of other tools like AdminScriptEditor, PrimalForms, PowerGUI, PowerShellPlus, PowerScripter and PowerGadgets.

I’m ready for it. Today the Dutch VMUG event will take place at the Nieuwegein Business Centre. In a short time over 600 attendees will pick up their badge and are going to enjoy several sessions divided into three parallel tracks. Like always I’ll capture some video footage here and there and at Saturday the 13e (my birthday) most of it will be online at Vimeo. At 11:30 I’ll deliver my “Managing VI3 with PowerShell” presentation, by 12:30 the presentation will appear online.

The voice over in "Dutch VMUG Video Trailer" is done by the famous Dutch disk jockey Jeroen van Inkel who recorded this jingle for my radio show “The Twilight Zone" which was broadcasted for over 10 years on a few local radio stations in the Netherlands.

Richard Garsthagen over at Run-Virtual.com released a new version of “VMotion Info” and re-branded it to  “VMware CPU Host Info”. This new version will help you identify what kind of processors you have in your ESX servers without having to reboot and use the VMware CPU identification boot CD. It will show you if you have VMotion compatible CPU’s.  I’m sure this new version will be demoed at the Dutch VMUG event at the 12th of December where Richard will present “VMware - 3rd Party Utilities for VMware” session. He’s also the keynote speaker at this event. I’ll be presenting the “Managing VI3 with PowerShell” session. There are still a few tickets left so if you’re in the neighbourhood, you can sign-up here.
