With great pleasure I took notice of the fact that I’m still in the high ranks of Eric Siebert’s Weblog top 10. NTPRO.NL went two places up and is staying at the fourth place. In June 2007 I was the first blogger who wrote about the start-up of VMware-land.  Since then Eric collected an immense number of links to all kinds of information related to VMware. He recently added the VMware Launchpad 2.0  page to his website, so you can quickly access any of the blogs from his site. At VMworld in Las Vegas I had the pleasure to meet Eric in person, he was one of the speakers at the Vmtn Community Experts Panel. While I was attending this session I recorded the introduction on video.

EMCCorporation announced that it has purchased 500,000 additional shares of VMware Class A common stock, bringing EMC’s ownership of VMware's total outstanding common stock to approximately 84%. The 500,000 shares were purchased from Intel Corporation.

Ideas International just released a functional evaluation which compares three x86 server virtualization platforms: VMware Infrastructure 3, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer 5.0. The evaluation uses their online Collaborative Product Evaluation (CPE) system, a community-driven site that is accessible for free over the web. The CPE interface allows visitors to weight any functional level by priority to get a customized ranking of the products based on their own needs. Moreover, if you want, you can add your own ratings of specific product attributes should you agree or disagree with their “expert” assessment.

The new evaluation compares VI3 with Hyper-V and XenServer based on a scorecard with 60 functional details in five categories, the most in-depth functional assessment yet of the leading x86 hypervisor technologies.
