New functional evaluation of x86 hypervisors
Ideas International just released a functional evaluation which compares three x86 server virtualization platforms: VMware Infrastructure 3, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer 5.0. The evaluation uses their online Collaborative Product Evaluation (CPE) system, a community-driven site that is accessible for free over the web. The CPE interface allows visitors to weight any functional level by priority to get a customized ranking of the products based on their own needs. Moreover, if you want, you can add your own ratings of specific product attributes should you agree or disagree with their “expert” assessment.
The new evaluation compares VI3 with Hyper-V and XenServer based on a scorecard with 60 functional details in five categories, the most in-depth functional assessment yet of the leading x86 hypervisor technologies. The link to the CPE evaluation on x86 hypervisors is http://ideasint.eval.com/hyper.

TechWiseTV | Accelerating Virtual Machines
Of all of the recent technology trends in the world of enterprise IT, virtualization may be the most profound. Almost every organization is implementing virtualization. However, most have not moved beyond the server consolidation stage. How can you take it to the logical next level, without creating serious management, control, and security issues?
This TechWiseTV episode reveals the expertise and the latest solutions that will enable you to virtualize your entire network infrastructure. Learn how Cisco is delivering the capability to provision and manage services with virtual machine–level granularity. See how these new solutions provide for quality of service, storage management, and security capabilities at the hypervisor layer. Watch TechWiseTV and see the newest virtualization technologies and services, including:
• Cisco VN-Link, which simplifies virtualized and physical environment management by bringing the server and the network closer together than ever before.
• Cisco Nexus 1000V, the first switch to embed a network operating system into the hypervisor, providing network-based segmentation and consistent policy implementation on a virtual machine
basis.
• Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAASv4.1) to accelerate virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) traffic, enabling you to more effectively deploy desktop virtualization.
