VMworld 2011 - Protecting SMBs Using SRM 5.0 with vSphere Replication
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (Site Recovery Manager) is the premier tool to enable you to build, manage and execute reliable disaster recovery plans for your virtual environment. Taking full advantage of the encapsulation and isolation of virtual machines, Site Recovery Manager enables simplified automation of disaster recovery.
It helps meet recovery time objectives, reduces costs traditionally associated with business continuance plans and achieves low-risk and predictable results for recovery of a virtual environment.
With the new version 5.0 release, VMware has expanded the capabilities of Site Recovery Manager to provide unprecedented levels of protection. New use cases have been made possible through the addition of the following capabilities:
- vSphere Replication
- Increased scalability
- Planned migration
- Failback
- Reprotection
- Enhanced dependency definition

This session provides guidelines on configuring Windows 8 to be used within a VMware View 5.1 Infrastructure. - 1616 Mythbusting Goes Virtual (with Mattias Sundling)
Based on the successful concept of fun, different and educational, the Mythbusting team is back with new virtualization myths! We have collected a series of hot topics that have been widely discussed in virtualization communities, on blogs and on Twitter. Now, we have put these topics to the test in our lab to determine if they are a myth or not. - 1871 Snapshots Deepdive (with Michael Wilmsen)
Creating virtual machine snapshots is one of the most common tasks for an administrator Making a snapshot of a virtual machine is one of the most common tasks an administrator can do with a virtual machine. Snapshots make our life must easier by providing a robust roll-back scenario when performing a upgrade or when we change the configuration of a virtual machine. Snapshots are quest independent and easy to use. Snapshots can also be a real nightmare when used wrong. Datastores can fill up resulting in a virtual machine (suspension) crash., you’re unable to delete snapshots and backup programs leaving unmanageable snapshots behind. These are all common issues that can occur when using snapshots. What about the size of a snapshot file, how large can a snapshot file grow? This session will give you a deepdive in how snapshot actually work in the different version of vSphere and how you can solve common problems when working with snapshots.

VMworld Session - VMware vMotion in VMware vSphere 5: Architecture, Performance & Best Practices
The new and improved VMware vMotion in VMware vSphere 5.0 incorporates a number of enhancements that leverage the power of the solid state drive and 10 gigabit Ethernet technologies that are increasingly adopted in today's datacenters. These enhancements vastly improve both the usability and performance of vMotion. Testing in VMware performance labs shows it is easier than ever to use vMotion to manage even large virtual machines running heavy-duty, enterprise-class applications with minimal overhead. This session will describe the vMotion architecture and the new and enhanced features of vMotion in vSphere 5.0. Performance implications with data from a wide variety of tier 1 application workloads will also be discussed. We will share common pitfalls as well as best practices that enable you to get the maximum benefit from the new and improved vMotion technology.

Spectaculair Opening Video VMworld 2011
This video was shown right before the Tuesday afternoon keynote at the VMworld 2011 in Copenhagen. I was searching for a few words to describe what I was feeling when I saw the opening video but I couldn’t find a good catch. Just take a look at the impression I shot and believe me when you were one of the attendees at this keynote you could hear a lot of wows left and right.
